Spring Lake local artist Sharon Lange has been accepted in this year’s ArtPrize by the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. Sharon’s entry this year is entitled “An Artful Home”. This entry represents a traditional home with five original paintings, all coordinated to present the concept that your home should celebrate those whom you love and communicate what’s important to you.
The idea for this year’s entry was inspired by last year’s experience at ArtPrize. After securing the Waters Building as a venue for Artprize 2012, Sharon’s husband and business partner, Rich, made a visit to see where her painting would be displayed. Rich was led to a corner office and told that the painting could be hung on any wall. He asked if anyone else would be exhibiting in this space and was told that no other artists were planned for the room. Noticing that the walls of the office were in poor condition, white with scuff marks and holes that remained from the prior year’s entry’s, he asked if he could patch and paint the walls? He followed up with questions about adding additional paintings in the room to complement the actual ArtPrize entry, as well as adding some furniture to give the room a more comfortable appeal. Every request was met with a positive response. The Water’s building staff was exceptionally accommodating.
After choosing complementary paint colors for the walls, Rich was tasked with patching and painting the walls and procuring furniture. A local furniture rental company delivered a couch, love seat, coffee table, end tables and lamps. A couple of small bookcases from home completed the room. Each painting was staged with appropriate pictures and props to make each painting a well coordinated vignette. This showcased Sharon’s philosophy that paintings should be well integrated into the décor.
The final result was very enthusiastically received. An estimated 3,500 visitors to the Waters Building viewed not only Sharon's entry “Fishing at Dusk”, but also experienced a comfortable place to relax and see additional paintings, as well as explore decorating ideas on how to integrate portrait art into the home. Comments about the idea of creating a coordinated room of paintings were so positive that it lead to this year's concept of “An Artful Home”.
Sharon’s venue this year is The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. Over 30,000 visitors are expected to view the Artprize entries in the Amway this year. Come by and see “An Artful Home”. It’s much more than a painting; it is an immersive experience demonstrating how art can be used to communicate the importance of Faith and Family.
